How do you decide whether to fly or drive somewhere? November 2022
We recently went to San Antonio for a conference. There were no direct flights from Tulsa to San Antonio so we drove the eight hour drive there, stayed 3 days for the conference then drove back. To me this seemed like a fairly easy decision, why pay $400 a ticket for a 5-6 hours worth of flights when you can just drive there for much cheaper and it only adds a couple hours to the overall travel time. Plus we can leave when we want, and not have any stress related to delayed or canceled flights. If you read the email from a few months ago we had a flight to Chicago that was delayed and eventually canceled which forced us to drive instead. We had a similar experience in Austin as well. So now I feel like if the trip is under 10 hours drivetime and there are no direct flights we will probably just drive it. At the conference people seemed surprised that we would drive that distance instead of just flying, these same people were complaining about having to get up early to catch a 5:00 flight. We also took advantage of the trip and listened to an audiobook together. We listened to Dreamland Burning which is a historical fiction based on Tulsa, it was a very good read and I would highly recommend it if that's something you’re interested in.
So I guess my question is how do you feel about driving vs flying? Is there a certain distance that you will prefer to drive to? Are you like John Madden and always prefer driving, or are you the exact opposite. It doesn't matter if it's just to OKC or Dallas you’re flying if there is an opportunity to fly?
