Colombia, the country of cheap prices and amazing fruit

We just came back from an amazing vacation in Colombia, which might be our last one for a while since we are expecting a baby soon. We wanted to make the most of this trip and enjoy ourselves as much as possible. We were lucky to find very cheap flights from Tulsa to Bogota, only $313 per person for round trips, and we stayed in nice hotels that cost only $30-40 a night.

One of the highlights of our trip was the fruit market tour, where we got to taste around 30-40 different kinds of fruits, many of them unique to Colombia. They were all so fresh and some of them had surprising flavors and textures. For example, there was a fruit called granadilla, which looked like an orange on the outside but had only seeds inside. I was hesitant to eat them at first, because growing up I was always told not to eat the seeds, but they were actually edible and delicious. You just had to suck them out of the peel and swallow them whole. They had a burst of sweetness that was incredible.

If you aren’t aware Bogota is very high above sea level, its at 8,612’, in comparison Denver is 5,280’. So its quite high, it's also near the equator so it creates this interesting situation where the temperature stays around 60 degrees year round. My assumption, after going to Denver, is that 60 degrees at high altitude is going to feel cold, and I was quite wrong. It was perfect jeans and tshirt weather every day, the two jackets I brought and long sleeve shirts just took up space in my luggage.

That's probably enough fun for a while, it's time to start making headway on the nursery.
