Unlocking Hidden Treasures: Discovering Unclaimed Property in Your State

If you haven't checked for unclaimed property in a while, it may be a good idea to do so now. Unclaimed property can be money that you didn't even know you had. There are various reasons why this money may not have reached you, and if it goes unclaimed, it gets turned over to the state. However, it's not lost forever; you can still claim it.

I recently checked for both myself and my wife, and we both had claims. My claim was over $100, while hers was under $100. The process to claim this money is relatively straightforward. Typically, all you need to provide is a copy of your driver's license and a copy of your Social Security card, and you're good to go. Within about 30 to 40 days, you should receive a check in the mail.

To check for unclaimed property, you can visit your state's unclaimed property website. You can easily find it by searching for "unclaimed property" or "unclaimed property in your state" on Google. I'll attach a link to Oklahoma's unclaimed property website since that's where most of the people reading this are likely located. However, if you've ever worked or lived in another state, it's a good idea to search in that state as well. You might have some extra money sitting out there that should be in your pocket.
